A storefront is an author’s own sales page for a book, selling the paperback, ebook or audiobook direct to readers with no retailer taking a cut.

## Definition

A **storefront** is a page where readers buy directly from the author or publisher rather than through a retailer. Direct sales keep most of the price — a card processor's fee instead of a 30–55% retail cut — and give the author something the big retailers never will: the buyer's name, so the next book can be announced to the people who bought the last one.

Direct selling used to mean running a shop: hosting, a payment gateway, ebook delivery, print fulfilment. Author-focused platforms have collapsed that into a link — a page with the cover, the description, a sample, and buy buttons for each format, with ebooks delivered instantly and print orders passed to a print-on-demand printer.

Storefronts and retail are complementary, not exclusive. Most authors keep the book on Amazon, Apple and Kobo for discovery and reach, and send their own audience — newsletter, social, the back of the book itself — to the storefront.
