The copyright page is the verso of the title page: the © notice, edition and printing, ISBN, publisher or imprint, credits and any disclaimers.

## Definition

The **copyright page** (also *imprint page* or *edition notice*) sits on the back of the title page — page iv in most books — and records who owns the work and how it was published. Its core is the **copyright notice**: the © symbol, the year of first publication and the owner's name, followed by "All rights reserved" or a licence statement.

Around that sit the practical facts: the **ISBN** for this edition, the **imprint** or publisher and its address or web address, the edition and printing (often a countdown line such as 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1), the printer's country, design and cover credits, permission acknowledgements for quoted material, and for fiction the disclaimer that characters are invented. Library cataloguing data may appear too.

Copyright exists the moment a work is written; the page does not create it, but it tells everyone where to send the questions.
